THE CLIENT: IHC - Intermountain Health Care

Located in Salt Lake City, Utah, Intermountain Healthcare has a BioRepository department team, which creates IT solutions for biospecimen analysis, tracking, annotation, and inventory management. This specific BioRepository team has one of the largest repositories of paraffin tissue blocks in the Western United States. The tissue blocks let cancer researchers study the DNA of patients who were treated at Intermountain over the last 25 years. Samples extracted from the patients’ DNA and RNA help analyze many different diseases.

THE SITUATION:

Since biorepositories are biological materials that are collected, processed, stored, and distributed in mass quantities, sufficient storage space must be available. Intermoutain Health Care needed storage racks that would be able to hold and store 3.5 million samples that were within glass boxes and paraffin.

THE SOLUTION:

Storage racks manufactured by Jaken were a really great solution for this Biorepository. Jaken storage racks are made to hold a lot of weight, including biology samples within glass boxes that have certain sizes and dimensions. The volume of the Biorepository collection fit perfectly with the height and width of these storage racks, especially since the self levels could be adjusted accordingly.

The Feature: Fire suppression has an important feature role in the design of this storage rack system.

The Advantage: Heavy items such as boxes of Biorepository samples in big bulks can be easily supported by this type of shelf deck ( known as particle board) within this storage rack system, which can be a great advantage.

The Benefit: Any amount of space can store more heavy duty items with less room needed versus traditional light duty shelving storage systems. This is a huge benefit for biorepositories.

ABOUT THE PRODUCT:
